Mega Abomination

The Mega Abomination is a boss-tier enemy that spawns in the Nightmare Zone after the Guild Strike boss fight is completed. It is one of the most reliable sources of named exotic weapons in the game, as it drops a guaranteed Exotic Cache on every kill.

The Mega Abomination is a large Cradle-origin creature that appears exclusively inside Nightmare Zones. It does not spawn in standard zones and cannot be encountered outside of a Nightmare Zone activation.

Unlike the Guild Strike bosses (O.S.C.A.R., Sualk Rebu, Shadow Overlord), the Mega Abomination is not the objective of the Guild Strike itself. It appears as a secondary encounter that begins after the main boss fight concludes.

The Mega Abomination spawns inside the Nightmare Zone once the Guild Strike boss has been defeated. The spawn sequence is:

  1. Guild Strike Activity triggers at the 45:15 match timer.
  2. Players defeat the Guild Strike boss.
  3. The Nightmare Zone activates and the Exotic Fabricator spawns.
  4. The Mega Abomination appears within the Nightmare Zone shortly after.

The Mega Abomination drops a guaranteed Exotic Cache (Exotic Weapon Case) on every kill. This makes it one of the most dependable ways to obtain named exotic weapons in a single run.

The Mega Abomination is classified as a high-difficulty encounter. The Nightmare Zone carries a recommended Combat Rating of CR 55. Players below this threshold will deal reduced damage to the Mega Abomination due to the zone’s power scaling.

Multiple players are recommended for the fight.

  • Solo players at CR 55+ with a fully built exotic weapon can fight the Mega Abomination, but the fight is long and risky without squad support.
  • At CR 60+ with an affinity exotic, solo kills become more manageable.
  • Squads of two or more players can clear the fight significantly faster and with less risk of being overwhelmed by the surrounding Nightmare Zone enemy density.

The Nightmare Zone also contains strong ambient enemies in addition to the Mega Abomination. Managing zone enemies while focusing on the boss is part of the challenge.

Prioritize the Nightmare Zone enemy density. The Mega Abomination is surrounded by strong Nightmare Zone enemies. Clear the immediate area before or during the boss fight to reduce pressure on squad members.

Use exotic-rarity weapons. Standard weapons deal substantially reduced damage inside the Nightmare Zone. An Exotic Fabricator spawns at the Guild Strike location after the boss fight, so there is no reason to engage the Mega Abomination without an upgraded weapon.

Coordinate entry timing. If playing in a squad, enter the Nightmare Zone together immediately after the Guild Strike boss dies. This maximizes the number of players present for the Mega Abomination spawn and reduces the time spent in the zone while the boss is building up.

Power Cube farming. Blue Power Cubes worth 750 Power each are scattered throughout the Nightmare Zone. Collecting these while fighting the Mega Abomination efficiently combines two of the best Power farming activities in the game.
