How to Get Exotics
There are two ways to get an exotic weapon in Endgame: finding one from an Exotic Weapon Case (also called Exotic Cache), or building one at the Exotic Fabricator. Cases give you Named Exotics with a unique camo and two random traits. The Fabricator lets you upgrade any weapon to exotic rarity and choose your own traits. Both methods give the same 3.5x damage multiplier.
Exotic Weapon Cases
Section titled “Exotic Weapon Cases”An Exotic Weapon Case contains one random named exotic from a shared loot pool. All sources draw from the same pool. The weapon comes with a unique glowing exotic camo, two random traits (one Exotic Effect and one Utility Bonus), and preset locked attachments. You cannot change the attachments in the Gunsmith.
Guaranteed sources
Section titled “Guaranteed sources”These always drop an Exotic Weapon Case:
| Source | Details |
|---|---|
| Gideon Falkner | One guaranteed case per run. Located on Falkner’s island in Zone IV (Toxin Source activity). Can be soloed quickly with an exotic weapon. |
| Mega Abomination | Guaranteed case on every kill. Spawns in the Nightmare Zone after any Guild Strike boss is defeated. Respawns roughly every 10 minutes. Can be killed 4-6+ times per game for multiple guaranteed cases. |
Chance-based sources
Section titled “Chance-based sources”These have a chance to drop an Exotic Weapon Case, but are not guaranteed. The developers have not published official drop percentages.
| Source | Community rating |
|---|---|
| Zone IV Command Center caches | High. Each center has multiple cache boxes. Players report 2-3 exotic cases from a single clear on good runs. Considered the best repeatable non-guaranteed source. |
| Zone IV Surprise Shipments | Moderate to high. Reliable enough that players include them in every farming route. |
| Zone IV HVT Eliminations | Moderate. The Low Town church HVT is frequently cited as a good spot. Elites that spawn nearby also have a chance to drop cases. |
| Zone IV+ elite enemies | Low per kill, but adds up over a full game. Drop rate varies heavily by session. |
| Zone IV Strongbox Crack | Small chance. |
| Zone III+ Toxin Field activities | Small chance. |
| Zone IV+ Prime Target | Small chance (from elite spawns during the activity). |
Loot pool
Section titled “Loot pool”All Exotic Weapon Cases draw from the same loot pool of 18 named exotics, regardless of source. Falkner cases, Mega Abomination cases, Command Center cases, and elite drops all share the same pool. The specific named exotic you receive is random, and you can get duplicates.
Exotic Fabricator (craft your own)
Section titled “Exotic Fabricator (craft your own)”The Exotic Fabricator spawns after defeating a Guild Strike boss. You must deal enough damage to the boss during the fight to earn access. If you arrive late or do not participate, the bench remains locked.
Two Guild Strikes spawn per game at the 45:15 timer mark:
- O.S.C.A.R. at the Winery (always the same location)
- A second Guild Strike at a rotating location (Coliseum, Casino, Coastal, or other set spots)
This gives you 2 Fabricator uses per game (one per Guild Strike boss).
Fabricator upgrade sequence
Section titled “Fabricator upgrade sequence”For a non-exotic weapon:
- First use: Upgrade to exotic rarity (3.5x damage multiplier)
- Second use: Add a Utility Bonus
- Third use: Add an Exotic Effect
- Subsequent uses: Reroll either the Utility Bonus or Exotic Effect (choose one, pick between two random options)
The Fabricator does not give crafted weapons the named exotic camo. The damage multiplier and trait mechanics are identical to case exotics.
Named Exotics vs Fabricator exotics
Section titled “Named Exotics vs Fabricator exotics”| Named Exotic (from case) | Fabricator Exotic (crafted) | |
|---|---|---|
| Damage | 3.5x multiplier | 3.5x multiplier |
| Traits | Two random traits, preset at drop | You choose each trait at the Fabricator |
| Camo | Unique glowing exotic camo | No special camo |
| Affinity bonuses | Possible (if matching affinity drops) | Not available on loadout weapons |
| Attachments | Preset, locked (cannot change) | Your loadout attachments (fully customizable) |
| Weapon choice | Random from the 18 named exotic pool | Any weapon you carry |
| Weapon slot | Field acquisition slot (slot 2) | Loadout slot (slot 1) |
Affinity-exclusive traits
Section titled “Affinity-exclusive traits”Some utility bonuses can only appear on Named Exotics that drop with their matching affinity exotic effect. These include Starburst, Firewheel, Black Hole, Warp, Lightning Strike, Chain Lightning, Big Game, and others. Grenade Bullets is exclusive to the Reboot (1911) but is a weapon-specific bonus, not an affinity bonus. You cannot roll these at the Fabricator on a loadout weapon.
If the named exotic dropped with its matching affinity, you can reroll its Utility Bonus at the Fabricator to try for a different affinity-exclusive bonus. This only works if you have not previously accepted a different reroll on that weapon.
Farming strategies
Section titled “Farming strategies”Falkner rush
Section titled “Falkner rush”Head straight to Falkner’s island in Zone IV at the start of a run. Destroy spores to fill the progress bar to 100%, kill Falkner, and collect the guaranteed exotic case. Takes roughly 4-7 minutes total including travel. This is the simplest guaranteed case per game and can be done solo at any CR.
Mega Abomination elite farming
Section titled “Mega Abomination elite farming”
This is considered the most efficient exotic farming method by the community. After a Guild Strike boss is defeated, a Mega Abomination spawns in the Nightmare Zone. Instead of killing the Mega Abomination immediately:
- Let the Mega Abomination stay alive
- Kill the elite enemies that continuously spawn around it
- Each elite has a chance to drop an exotic case
- Community reports range from 3-15 exotic cases per Abomination session
- When the Abomination eventually dies or someone kills it, wait for the next respawn (~10 minutes)
With 2-3 Mega Abominations per game, experienced players report up to 20+ exotic cases in a single run using this method. One player reported 24 cases in a single game.
Zone IV HVT cycling
Section titled “Zone IV HVT cycling”Cycling Zone IV HVT Elimination contracts in the Low Town area lets you chain completions quickly. Each HVT has a chance to drop an exotic case, and the contracts respawn frequently. This method also levels your weapons fast. For weapon XP details, see XP.
Zone IV Command Centers
Section titled “Zone IV Command Centers”Zone IV Command Centers contain up to 5 cache boxes that can each hold exotic cases. The southern Zone IV Command Center (near Falkner’s island) and the Low Town Command Center are the most commonly farmed. Clear the center, open all caches, and move on to the next activity while the center resets.
Optimal combined run
Section titled “Optimal combined run”For maximum exotic cases and Fabricator uses in a single game:
- Drop in and do Falkner (0:00 to ~7:00) for the guaranteed exotic case
- Fly to Winery for Oscar at the 45:15 timer mark. Type “oscar asap 4515” in lobby chat to rally players. Kill Oscar for Fabricator #1
- Do the second Guild Strike at its rotating location for Fabricator #2
- Farm Mega Abomination elites in the Nightmare Zone. Keep the Mega alive as long as possible and kill the elites that spawn around it
- Hit Zone IV Command Centers between Abomination respawns. Open all 5 caches per center
- Run Zone IV Surprise Shipments and HVT Eliminations on the way between locations
- Repeat the Mega Abomination when it respawns (~every 10 minutes)
This route can yield the guaranteed cases from Falkner and multiple Mega Abominations, 2 Fabricator uses, plus numerous chance-based drops from Command Centers, activities, and elite kills. Experienced players report 7-20+ exotic cases per game with this approach.
